She has been conducting freshwater turtle research for 15 years in the Amazon, Australia, Papua New Guinea and Timor-Leste. She is a Research Fellow at Charles Darwin University and the Red List Coordinator for the IUCN/SSC Tortoise and Freshwater Turtle Specialist Group. She has a very long Brazilian name (Carla Camilo Eisemberg de Alvarenga), which sometimes confuses people.
